Have you ever spent hours scouring the internet for clean beauty products, only to wind up disappointed when you try a new one? That was how I felt for the two years that it took me to find a toxin-free foundation.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little bit picky (ok a lot picky) when it comes to foundation. As a former makeup artist, this was one product that I just couldn’t compromise on when it came to quality versus safety.
The Full Coverage Unicorn
I was looking for something with medium to full coverage. I definitely don’t have perfect skin, and the entire reason I wear foundation is to look like I do. You know what I mean? And I’m just going to assume that you’re like me in that you want something that doesn’t feel like you’re wearing foundation, even if it has a good amount of coverage. Right?
Surprisingly, one of the hardest things for me to find was a safer foundation with good coverage. So many safer foundation options have more of a tinted moisturizer consistency, which is not what I prefer. If that’s your jam, then you’ll definitely find a lot of great options out there that are safer options with lighter coverage.
I, unfortunately, need lots of coverage, but I don’t like products that feel heavy on my skin. After trying several options, for the life of me, I just couldn’t find anything to replace my It Cosmetics foundation (which by the way, doesn’t have the best EWG rating.)
Josie Maran Foundation
That is, until I found Josie Maran’s foundation. This argan oil foundation delivers. It feels so light on my face that I forget I’m wearing it, but it gives that nice medium-to-full coverage that I loved so much from my favorite less-than-clean foundation brand. Side note, I didn’t include it on this post, but I love the corresponding concealer also!
There are so many “clean” foundations out there, but many of them still have only mediocre safety ratings. Finding a great foundation that’s also safe was super important to me because it’s the one product that I use every single day.
Make Clean Swapping Easy
If you’re just starting out with a non-toxic lifestyle, I would recommend starting with the products that you use the most often and then replacing them as they run out. For example, if you wear beauty balm every day, but you’ve recently realized that yours isn’t the safest formula, just be sure to replace it with a safer option when you run out of your current bottle.
The products that we wear every day definitely add up, so be sure to prioritize those as you switch to cleaner formulas. Want more help switching to safer products? Check out my free guide below to get the scoop on even more clean beauty swaps!
