Insomnia is THE WORST. Are you with me? If you’re reading this, my guess is that you know exactly what I’m talking about.
After trying out what feels like a million different products in my quest for an amazing nights sleep, I’ve finally found three restful sleep winners. If you have trouble falling asleep, or if you wake up at 2 am with racing thoughts, I think you’re going to find these supplements helpful too!
Ashwagandha
Yep, I said it. Ashwagandha. It may have a weird name, but let me tell you, this stuff is a game changer. It’s an adaptogen, which means it adapts to what you need. If you need more energy, it can give you an energy boost. If you need to relax, it’ll help you relax. It’s great if you have adrenal fatigue and can help to balance your energy levels as you’re healing.
This supplement was such a lifesaver for me when I was healing from autoimmune issues. It really helped me in rebalancing my system, and I still swear by adaptogens today, many years later. It goes without saying that you should check with your doctor before trying any of these supplements, but this Gaia Sleep & Relax is my absolute favorite formula for sleep.
Essential Oils
You know I am all about some essential oil and crystal magic, so this Abracadabra Sleep Oil is my go-to when I really can’t take any chances with insomnia. I roll this stuff on the bottom of my feet before bed, and the first time I used it, it knocked me out so hard that Brendan said I was snoring! The next night he wanted to borrow it, haha!
Magnesium
I can safely say that magnesium has changed my life. When I first heard about taking this supplement before bed to help with sleep, I was skeptical. That is, until the first night that I took it and proceeded to have the best sleep of my life. It’s been a staple in my medicine cabinet ever since.
My doctor actually recommended it because most American’s are extremely deficient in magnesium. He explained that this is because magnesium is one of the first minerals the body burns through with stress. Raise your hand if you have stress in your life. Yep, me too.
So, it may be a good idea to at least give it a try for a few weeks and see how you feel. The formula that my doctor recommended is the Pure Encapsulations Magnesium, but I’m actually obsessed with this Natural Calm that I take every night before bed.
